Windows for your family with anytime possibility for upgradeMicrosoft announced today two programs for its upcoming OS, Windows Vista, that allows customers to buy more licences for a small price, or upgrade latter at any time their existing copy. The new opportunities are called Windows Family Discount and Windows Anytime Upgrade.

Both programs are meant to lower the expenses of people who want to legally use Vista and are overwhelmed by the infamous prices Windows asks for it’s new face lifted Mac OS X (some people say that, not us). Now let’s see what these two programs are all about.

The first program, Windows Family Discount is meant for homes that need less than 5 copies of Vista. The terms are pretty simple: buy one full grade Windows Vista Ultimate licence and then, between January 30th and June 30th, buy two Windows Vista Home Premium licences for which you pay only 2 x 49.99 $. I know that one plus two makes three which is lower than five, but also 4 is lower than five, so why can’t I buy 3 additional Windows Vista Home Premium licences? Anyway, maybe it’s a typo, maybe it’s a mystery, certain is that time will enlighten us.

The second one, Windows Anytime Upgrade allows a user to buy one version of Vista and then upgrade to a more feature-rich one for the following prices.

  • Home Basic –> Home Premium:  $79
  • Home Basic –> Ultimate:  $199
  • Home Premium –> Ultimate:  $159
  • Business –> Ultimate:  $139

From what I wrote above I draw two possible conclusions: Microsoft cares about it’s customers or just thinks Vista is a little too expensive. What do you think?
