If you’re using Windows 7 from some time now you must have observed it comes by default with a good array of wallpapers, grouped by themes. Interestingly enough those wallpapers rotate every few minutes by themselves. If you set up your own wallpaper in Windows 7 things change and you seem to lose the ability to rotate wallpapers automatically.
I’ve used the word ‘seem’ because you’re not actually losing this ability. In this guide I’m going to show you step by step what you have to do to build your own themes with multiple rotating wallpapers. It’s easy and takes only a few seconds so there’s no reason not to do it if you’re the type of guy (or girl) that likes to personalize their gadgets as a form of personal expression.
Setting up multiple images/pictures as rotating wallpapers in Windows 7
- First get all your pictures that you’ve been meaning to set up as background images in the same folder. You can have also other files in that folder, but the important thing is to get all desired pictures in the same folder
- Navigate to the folder containing your images
- Select desired images by: drawing a selection with the mouse, SHIFT+Left Click the first and the last image in the series or CTRL+Left Click each image individually until you’ve selected all the files you’re interested in
- Right click on one of the files in the selection and select Set as desktop background option
That’s it, now all your pictures will cycle automatically on the background of your desktop.

Setting up the delay between wallpaper switching
One more thing before we end this guide: if you want to change the delay interval between each wallpaper switch here’s how you can do that:
- Right Click on desktop and select Personalize
- In the lower part of the window that just opened click on Desktop Background
- On the lower part of the same window select a value that suits you from the Change picture every: menu. Additionally you can check the Shuffle box to rotate images randomly. You can also disable the wallpaper slideshow in battery mode by checking the box under the first menu
