Every now and then, we hear the term ringtone. So, what’s a ringtone? A ringtone is the sound produced by the mobile phones so as to indicate an incoming call and thus, it alerts the user. The network sends a message to the mobile phone to indicate an incoming call and then mobile phone plays the selected music ringtone so as to indicate the same.
There are different types of music ringtones –
- Monophonic
A monophonic ringtone is basically a series of musical notes, with one musical note at any given instant.
- Truetone
A truetone is also referred as a ‘mastertone’ or a ‘realtone’. It is the latest evolution of the ringtone. In simple words, it is basically an audio recording and the excerpts from popular songs can be used as ringtone.
- Polyphonic
While a monophonic ringtone has only one musical note at a given time, a polyphonic ringtone consists of several notes at a given time. Sequenced recording methods were used for first polyphonic ringtones and the instrument sound depends upon the playback device.
You can even make your own music ringtones by using any ringtone maker software which is very easy to find. With the help of a ringtone maker, you can cut the popular songs so as to create a ringtone or you can even use your own audio recording to create a ringtone.
Some of the popular ringtone formats –
