Toshiba has announced the launch of three new business models along their office laptop line. The three, ordered with respect to their size, are the 13.3 inch Portege R830, the 14.0 inch Techra R840 and the 15.6 inch Tecra R850.
Toshiba is obviously committed to keep up with the top producers with regard to their business laptops: the three models we will be presenting are slimmer and lighter than previous versions, they run second generation Intel processors and feature, amongst others, fingerprint readers and spill-resistant keyboards.
Toshiba Portege R830/R835 – 13 inch
The Portege R830, which is the business version of the R835, is the smallest of the lot. It features a 13.3 inch HD widescreen LED Backlit display and a 6-cell battery life to keep the machine running for up to 8 hours. The intel Core i3-370M processor is backed up by 4GB of RAM and 500 GB –sized HDD. The Graphics card is nothing to talk about, but then, we are talking about a business laptop, not geared for entertainment. On the upside, the R830 comes packed with connectivity solutions, from a LAN port, 4G WiMax and Intel wireless 802.11 a/g/n, to the already mandatory HDMI exit.

At 1.5 kg, the Portege R830 both slim and light
Toshiba Tecra R840 – 13 inch
The Tecra R840 packs a more serios punch. The 14 inch HD TFT widescreen Backlit display is capable of delivering 720p content and is mounted on an intel Core i7 2620 M processor and 4 GB RAM. The system features a faster, but smaller HDD at 320 GB, but it makes up by upgrading the image quality: graphics are displayed via a 1 GB ATI Radeon 6450M graphics card. The battery is the same 6-cell as the one on the R830, yet the higher processing power will eat up at it faster. Just like the R830, the Tecra R840 comes equipped both for heavy LAN use and high speed WiFi connectivity, and also puts Bluetooth on the table.

The R840 is presumably the fastest of the lot
Toshiba Tecra R850 – 15 inch
The Tecra R850 is the biggest of the three, but not as agile as the others. Its 15.6 inch HD widescreen screen is indeed capable of 720p content, but the hardware it rests upon will not deliver as fast as the others’. The processor is an Intel Core i3-2310M and the standard configuration only comes with 3GB of RAM and the same Intel graphics card as the one on the Portege R830. The HDD is at 320 GB, so it’s less than the R830, and other than that, the configuration resembles the one on the others.

At 15.6 inches, the R850 has the largest display of the three
Aside from the differences listed above, the laptops are fairly similar. They all boast advanced security features, from multi-level password utilities, fingerprint recognition and HDD recovery. In addition, they all have the same 6-cell battery.
Toshiba is launching these three laptops in order too keep their market share. These are not trendsetters, they do not break rules or paradigms. Toshiba’s laptops are serious business machines to help you get your job done. All models start at about $870, so take a look at Toshiba’s pages if you want more info.
