The Hammacher-Schlemmer O’hEocha Audiophile’s Speakers: an alien playing music

Hammacher-Schlemmer are known for their incredible and unique sound systems. One of their latest, the O’hEocha Audiophile’s Speakers, were designed by an ex BMW Designer, Aonghus O`hEocha, and look bizarre but sound incredible.

We’re talking here about a couple of 200-watt hand made isobaric speakers, meant to provide for the listeners the best three-dimensional sound experience ever. From the beginning, the strange shape of this system catches the eye, cause it resembles a little alien. The body of the speakers is made from aircraft grade aluminium, and strengthened with a couple of reinforced rods. Together with the 3 legs, that include floor protection technology, they are destined to reduce distortions and interferences with the surrounding objects.

Each speaker has two 11" subwoofers, two 6.5" mid range units and a tweeter. The subwoofers are mounted in an isobaric chamber, cone-to-cone. This configuration provides a tremendous bass, due to the voluminous chamber in witch the bass cones are put, and is completed with two bass reflex ports with the role of equalizing air flow trough the enclosure. In the end, the result is a interferences-free low frequency sound, that goes down to 25Hz.

The O’hEocha Audiophile’s Speakers: an alien skilled in sounds

The mid range spherical enclosure contains, like i said, two 6.5" units, one facing forward and one backward. This way, the sound is spread equally around the speaker. I should also mention that this units rotate on a horizontal axis, allowing you to achieve a better sound tuning.

Last but not least, on the top of each speaker thrones a tiny 1" tweeter, for high frequency sounds. Isolated by the rest of the system through a rubber insert, it has a control spike that minimizes the resonance transfer between it and the mid range chamber, thus reducing distortions.

So, the Hammacher-Schlemmer O’hEocha Audiophile’s Speakers is indeed an exclusive and exquisite sound system. The price shows this as well, being around 9000$. Despite this, don’t be amazed if you’ll have to wait a little for your command to be delivered, cause this speakers really enjoys a big popularity among the pretentious audiophile customers.
