Sony shows OLED prototypes under 1 cm thick
If you followed us from the beginning you might have read the news about Sony’s OLED monitors, with 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Apparently they really want to produce them and made improvements in the three months that passed. As a result new prototypes were shown this week at Display Expo 2007, a Japanese show dedicated to displays.

What’s exciting, besides the million to one contrast ratio is their thickness, or should I say thinness. The 1080p model will only occupy 9 mm on your desk, if you don’t count the base which also integrates the connectors. If you settle with just 1024 x 600 pixels you must be careful not to cut yourself in the 3 mm deep prototype, again without counting the base.

Even if Sony isn’t capable yet to produce them at an affordable price, I think they will be a hit for professional users which are putting performance on the first place, as we know that OLED displays have better color accuracy (Sony says that the prototypes shown at Display Expo have 111 % color gamut) and contrast ratio, all this while keeping power consumption even lower.
