Sony plans to bring back the Walkman
Ever since the Walkman was released back in 1979, Sony has been a key player on the portable media players market. In the last years though, things didn’t go that good, as rivals like Apple or Sansa came along with some very nice products. But the rumours are that Sony is planning a strike back…

The story started with this in 1979: the first Sony Walkman
Yes, Sony is planning to revive the Walkman series with a brand new and performant player, capable of facing the Apple Nano or Sansa C200 in straight "combat". What does this gadget bring? Well, the design will be inspired from the Sony NW-A3000 players, combined with curved lines, like the iPod, yet managing to be smaller than it. Other then that, similar buttons with the NW-A3000, a big screen for optimal view of movies and photos and a superslim allure of just 6.5 mm.

I mentioned the big screen for movie watching. Oh yes, cause the new Walkman will support video format. That’s something the Nano doesn’t do, you know… Combine this with storage drives of 2,4 or 8 GB and an autonomy of up to 10 h, for video playing that is, and you might get an idea on this gadget. That playing time is longer than the iPod’s one, and this player is smaller than even the Nano. Will this be possible? Well, we’ll see…
And we’ll see pretty soon, cause the new players are due to be launched in March, for reasonable prices, at least that’s what Sony claims. With violet, black, blue and pink coats, the new Walkman could be this year’s Portable Media Player…
