Seagate DAVE brings wireless streaming for mobile phones

Multimedia streaming is nothing new and Seagate wants to expand this mobile phones, by launching DAVE (Digital Audio Video Experience), codemaned “Crickett“, a mobile platform consisting of a wireless connected (via Bluetooth or WiFi) storage device with size comparable to a mobile phone.

DAVE’s size is 3.5 x 4.7 x .47 inches (61 x 89 x 12 mm) and weight 2.5 ounces (approximately 70 grams). Power is provided by a lithium-ion battery with an autonomy of 14 days in standby mode and 10 hours of media streaming. DAVE can be accessed from withing a range of 30 feet (10 m). Besides the hardware part, Seagate will offer a SDK (Software Development Kit) so that streaming applications can be programmed to take advantage of DAVE’s capabilities.

DAVE will be available from Seagate in Q2 2007, so start saving money.
