Apple MacBook Air has a special status in the world of laptops. As attractive as it is through its design it is prohibitive from the point of view of its price. Since Apple is one of the most well renowned companies when it comes to designs most companies were content with designing ordinary products.

In the month of February an aggressive offensive against the MacBook Air is launched by a new promising series of hi-tech laptops: the 9 Series, a true ultrabook. Let us first take a look at the main technical specs of the new portable platform from the South Koreans.

  • 13.3″ HD LED-backlit display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels
  • 1.40 GHz Intel Core i5 processor
  • Integrated Intel HD GT2 video card
  • 4GB of DDR3 memory
  • Storage space of up to 128 GB exclusively through SSD
  • Connectivity: Wireless and WiMax
  • Li-Polymer battery with an autonomy of up to 6.5 hours
  • Weight: 1.3 kg

Design and build characteristics

When you want to become a serious competitor for the MacBook Air the design of your product has to be on the 1st place. Samsung understood this and created a laptop with an elegant design. The elegance is brought especially by its case made integrally out of Dural. As its name suggests Dural is a derived from aluminum. It offers a two times bigger durability but maintains weight at low levels.

In addition to this the Samsung 9 Series is an extremely thin laptop. Even if it is very thin the keyboard is well built and buttons are sufficiently well individualized so that they can easily be used.

More technical data

Along with its design Samsung was also interested in the hardware of its device. The laptop has a 13.3 inch HD display that runs at a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. It is a big enough resolution for you to watch HD ready clips.

The processor is a 1.40 GHz Intel Core i5 2537M with 3 MB of cache memory. It can be improved to 2.3 GHz with the help of the Turbo function. The processing unit is helped by the integrated GT2 Intel HD graphics card and the 4 GB of DDR3 memory.

Thinness is one of the things worth mentioning about the Samsung 9 Series

The user has multiple choices when it comes to the storage space. The maximum storage space is of 128 GB. Obviously because of the fact that the laptop is very thin the only storage space option is through Solid State Drive (SSD). The great thing is that SSDs offer a faster speed compared to classical HDDs

Connecting to the internet is possible through 802.11 b/g/n wireless and the WiMax technology. Music fans will have a 2.1 integrated audio system to use that offers a power of 3 W for the 2 speakers and 1.5 W for the subwoofer.

The battery is a Li-Polymer and assures autonomy of not more than 6 and a half hours depending on the style of use. The operating system can be the Windows 7 Home Premium or the Windows 7 Professional, both in 64 bit versions.
