Plantronics Voyager PRO+ Bluetooth Headset: nice, but not the best possible choice

Plantronics Voyager PRO+ Bluetooth Headset: nice, but not the best possible choice

By: Alexandra Fistic  In: Accessories and Peripherals  Updated: Dec 9, 2011

The cellphone wireless headset is today a commonly used accessory, not only when driving, but also when looking for a little bit of entertainment, such as listening to music or a nice radio show etc, it’s basically part of our lives. Nevertheless, the sound quality, the voice alarms, the ability to connect to more than one mobile telephone have become today important criteria in choosing the perfect headsets. The modern wireless technology gives someone the freedom to use his hands while talking on the phone, through Bluetooth (limited to close range data transmission up to 10 meters usually). Therefore the best headset ought to be a wireless headset (we won’t even talk about wired headsets) and we decided to take a look over the Plantronics Voyager PRO+ bluetooth headset. Details and conclusions are the following:

The Plantronics Voyager PRO+ bluetooth headset can keep you talking for no more than 6 hours continuously, providing up to 5 days of standby. It has a dual microphone (IQ2) that renders your natural voice. This is the best thing with Plantronics, as they use numerous technologies to improve on sound quality. The life expectancy (warranty) is of one year, but I’m sure it can handle more if properly cared for.

The gadget can connect to two mobile phones simultaneously and the microphone boom is adjustable. The A2DP makes it capable of steaming music, podcasts and GPS directions. By connecting the device to the Vocalyst platform, you’ll get also the famous ‘’voice and text services’’, which means that one no longer has to read the received messages, but hear them in the his/her bluetooth headset, plus write and send text messages by voice commands.

The Plantronics Voyager PRO+ bluetooth headset also alerts the user when connected to the cellar phone, the time consumed during a phone call and the battery level (which could also be visualized on the phone’s screen). This accessory is a noise cancelling headset, therefore the person you are talking to won’t be able to tell if you are in a crowded place (such as road traffic or in a club) or at home.

On the other hand, although this headset is very comfortable and full of so many options, one has no idea who is calling, because this thing doesn’t tell you and you might not want to take all incoming calls. The Vocalyst platform can be accessed only by smart phones (Blackberry and Android ones) and if the first year is free, subsequent periods require a subscription (pretty expensive) for accessing this platform. In order to see the remaining charge time on the telephone screen, additional software installed is needed.

The price of the Plantronics Voyager PRO+ bluetooth headset goes for around 75 $ and I believe that it is a decent deal for a business man or woman who is looking for a useful instrument, as well as a young person looking for a fun toy. But, then again, I wouldn’t see it as the best deal one can get…not the best bluetooth headset, and certainly not the best price!
