Panasonic Lumix FX100, a 12.2 megapixel camera with HD recordingEven it just a few months passed since HD videos entered market officially and some HD recording camcorders appeared, it seems that HD recording is also possible with a regular digital camera. The first model of this kind is Panasonic’s Lumix FX100, which boasts a 12.2  1/1.27megapixel CCD sensor, OIS system (optical image stabilisation) and Venus III processing engine.

I won’t bother you with the complete specs, but I want to stress out the only thing that makes Lumix FX100 different from other digital cameras: it’s ability to record motion pictures at 1280 x 720 pixels at 15 frames per second (HD 720p). We all know that such movies take no prisoners when it comes to disk space, that’s why Panasonic fitted the FX100 with a SDHC/SD compatible card slot.

For easy video and pictures playback Panasonic offers the DMW-SDP1 HDTV Photo Player which can be connected via a Component cable to a HDTV. I don’t know when Lumix FX100 will be available but it ranks high in my wanted list, as it seems to be the perfect slim personal camcorder.
