Lazy Thumb concept phone, a buttonless phoneWhat’s the next big step in user interfaces? For me will be something without buttons, because no matter how good you are you will be always limited by how fast your fingers will do the job. I will love to use something like the Lazy Thumb concept, a voice activated phone which only uses three buttons.

Lazy Thumb may be available in two versions: cheap and expensive

Lazy Thumb is credited to Koo Ho Shin designer, and has imagined a simple phone with simple functions: Send/Receive calls and text messages. Composing messages is done with Speech to Text transcription engine. The phone uses three polycarbonate plates with integrated OLED screens and an LCD screen beneath them to show additional info.

Sliding the three plates gives access to the LCD screen under them, that show the main menu sections: calling (in top panel), missed call checking (in middle panel) and message checking (in bottom panel). I give it a ten for simplicity, but I don’t know how will it stack up to Apple iPhone, if they ever meet the end-user.
