Intel Metro, a notebook for the city

Intel Metro, a notebook for the city

Why isn’t a laptop the ultimate mobility device? It has the power and features but what’s missing. Intel thinks it’s the size, weight and the fact that you can’t use it instantly. You have to boot it up and that takes some time. Even if you resume hibernate it’s inconvenient to check your email every few minutes. That’s where the Metro notebook concept enters arena.

Metro is a low power notebook (I’m referring to consumption and CPU processing capabilities) that features an external e-ink display, capable of showing infos like new emails, calendar entries, eBooks even with the laptop powered off. This display is mounted on a leather wrap-around (this makes Metro scratch-proof and irresistible to ladies, so they say) and connects to the laptop via a dock connector, capable of USB transfers.

As an urban warrior, Metro is packed with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and WiMAX wireless connections. Another very interesting point is the inductive charging pad, that allows phone and PDA batteries to be charged without the need of a special wired connector: you just have to put them on the pad and batteries get charged in time. Another specs that help you enjoy Metro even more is the weight: 0.7 to 1 kg, and the shoulder strap that makes it easy to carry around. As with any other concept, I can’t say when and if it will ever be available, but personally I hope it’s gonna show up sometime.
