How about architectural gadgets? The Rolling Bridge might qualify

Architecture doesn’t have anything to do with gadgets actually, but some design concepts deserve mentioned here.

The Rolling Bridge is one such thing. It’s not only a brave concept but also a simple one. In essence a Rolling Bridge is an opening bridge with a different retracting mechanism: It rolls into a circle instead of lifting to let boats pass.

Because of its design, the Rolling Bridge is not supposed to be a replacement for suspended bridges, but an alternative to small bridges. It measures just 12 meters, and consists of 8 1.5meter sections made from steel and timber. When it has to retract, the Rolling Bridge curls and becomes a big wheel. It will be used first in London (UK), a city well known for it’s architectural marvels.
