Futiro’s black beauties
Although the irish are famous for their legendary avarice, i can say that the guys at Futiro, a small company from Ireland, are the exception from the rule. That’s because they spared no effort when they designed their latest VOIP phones with integrated Skype technology.
Actually, we’re talking about 3 different products here, launched a couple a days ago at CES. And they are baptised with Italian names: Solo (alone), Terra (the Earth) and Luna (The Moon). I can’t tell why, but this names are cool nonetheless. You can take a look at this interview from the first day they were exposed at CES.
The basic model, called the Futiro Terra, comes with an incredible design: tall, simple and dark. I would say it’s the Naomi Campbell of the gadgets. Although it has just 4 simple buttons, the software makes it ready for immediate connexion to Skype, via Internet. So, when you connect the device to your computer trough the USB Cable, the contacts from Skype automatically synchronize with the Terra, and all you have to do is scroll the list, dial the number and enjoy speaking with someone from the other part of the globe. All these for a very low price…

Futiro Terra: a black beauty in the gadgets world

It’s simple: sync, scroll and call
The middle model, the Futiro Solo, is the younger brother of the Terra. Being more suitable for people who use to travel a lot, it impresses with it’s reduced size and weight (less than 100 g actually) and a smart cable management to keep things from getting too tangled. Other than that, it has the same functions as it’s relative.

Futiro Solo: meant for portability

Same simple 4 buttons characteristic to the Futiro line
The top model of the line is the Futiro Luna. It comes with a fully operational telephone keypad, besides the 4 buttons inherited from the other two models. This way you can dial any number you want, without having to sync the information with a computer. And it also has hands-free technology, allowing you to make international conferences really easy.

Futiro Luna: the top notch of the line

Futiro Luna comes with comes a fully operational telephone keypad
Even though the Futiro gadgets aren’t very impressive from the technological point of view, they are perfectly suited for their job: VOIP phone-calls. The grumblers might say that at least wireless technology should have been implemented… Actually, even only for their incredible design and I’d still buy them, if not for more. And if you’re curious about the prices, well, the Terra costs 65$, the Solo 75$ and the Luna 85$, and can only be bought online from the producer’s site.
