Fujitsu showcases its UMPC during WinHECUMPCs refuse to die it seems, after missing a point, I mean being more expensive than laptops, less powerful and too big compared to PDA Phones and smartphones. At WinHEC today, Fujitsu presented its UMPC model, the U series FMV-U8240, which looks promising, despite the fact that it seems more like a tablet PC.

Specs are almost top notch, except SSD drives, which might be purchased as an option later, if Fujitsu decides to ride along with other manufacturers. We have an 800 MHz Intel A110 CPU, codename Stealey, 1 GB RAM, 20 GB hard drive, QWERTY keyboard and a 5.6 inch display with 1024 x 600 pixels. What strikes me it’s the lack of Bluetooth and Wireless WAN.

On the plus side we have Compact Flash and SD card slot for memory expansion. Various accessories include docking station and extended four cell battery said to provide 7 hours of autonomy. Photo shooting freaks will appreciate the two built-in cameras, one of course for videoconferencing. Personally I like the U series, except the lack of advanced wireless interfaces.
