Free Hosting – Why it is not that good
Hosting is one of the important things to be considered for running a website. A lot depends on your hosting and so, you should carefully choose your web host after considering all the important aspects like uptime, customer support, bandwidth and more.
Many people are lured by ‘Free Hosting’ but are these free hosting accounts that great? From experience, the answer is NO! Because the resources are very limited and you cannot expect great service as you’re not paying anything for it. I have tried free hosts in the past and had good experience with some of them but had a bad experience with most of them. Even if you’re a starter and have limited budget, I still recommend you to go for a ‘Paid Hosting’ as paid hosting providers usually offer better services than ‘Free Hosting’ Providers.
Some of the reasons which make me less inclined towards free hosting providers –
- Not Enough Reliability
- Poor Customer Support
- You might lose some business because of branding
- Paid hosting is affordable
Since you are not paying anything for the service, you cannot complain them if their service is down for days or even weeks. Free hosting providers are usually less reliable when it comes to uptime and bandwidth usage.
Again, you’re paying them so you cannot expect them to answer your queries as fast as possible. You can end up in a situation where your website is down and you’ve no clue about the hosting service.
If you’re running a web based business and if you’re using a free hosting then you’re likely to lose some customers as free hosting offer limited resources and you’re not able to make any number of desired changes. Also, if you’re on a sub-domain of a free service then you’ll not be able to turn your visitors into regular customers.
Above all, paid hosting comes at an affordable price. There are a number of web hosting providers that offer great service, uptime and resources at an affordable price. The hosting market is highly competitive which makes even the best hosting providers to offer their great services at an affordable price so as to stay in the business.
So, compare the plans, make a research and decide which host is best for your website.
