"Elios" RescueBot, a peaceful Terminator robotWith the release of Asimo, the first really humanoid robot, we all started to dream of the day when we will be surrounded by robots helping us in various tasks, making our lives easier. This may be true sometime in the future, but for now this paradise is just a concept, a dream on a drawing board. Marcos Nolan is one designer that shares the same vision, and his recent creation is "Elios", the RescueBot.

Elios can be defined as a medical robot, with the main function of rescuing injured people and transporting them to the nearest point where they can receive help. To make it suitable for rough terrain, the creator imagined an armor plate the covers the body of the RescueBot. Optical and biometric sensors help Elios advance in the toughest natural conditions. Add to that the maneuverability permitted by its arachnoid form and you have the picture of the perfect medical robot.

Once Elios gets near the target, his 10 arms concealed beneath its body carefully lift the injured person and secure it for transportation. The walk back is just a simple procedure. I don’t know it current technology makes Elios possible, but in the future I have no doubt that such specific task robots will exist and, as I said in the beginning, they will make things easier.

Looks cool alright, but “a dream on a drawing board”. Even if they build it, well building is hardly the hardest part..
