Wait a minute, what’s a Storage Robot? Well, nothing more than a marketing term for an USB external storage device with some really special redundancy technology and simple user management. And when I say simple, I mean it.
Watching this video clearly shows the strongest point of DROBO: very simple user management, upgrade and maintenance. All you have to do is plug drives and copy files. DROBO event tells you when the system reached 85 % occupied space, indicating that there’s time to buy another drive or exchange one of the four existing drives.

Round big hips to store more, that’s DROBO
DROBO uses a mixture of LEDs to visually indicate system status. A supplementary software application gives you more detailed informations about DROBO, but it’s likely that you’ll install it and forget about it. Why they called it DROBO? Because of its hardware logic that allows using different sized disks, hot swap capability and data automatic data backup.
Is DROBO perfect? When it comes to usability surely is, but how about price? For 699 $ it’s a little steep considering that it doesn’t feature NAS capabilities. Connection is made via USB, but I would have loved to see Ethernet option. My call, I would buy it if they dropped the 6 from current price.
