After the first specs of the incoming Apple iPhone were released to the media, a swarm of murmurs raised from the crowds, cause the iPhone didn’t have a lot of functions that supposed to be obligatory for 2007. One of them is the lack of 3G connectivity. But Apple has announced that will take care of the issue, launching a new version of the handset, just a couple of months after the first model will hit the stores. We won’t see the 3G iPhone sooner than January 2008 though.
This are just rumours, because Apple has been kind of shy in exposing their plans about 3G development in the future. But we should trust them, cause we know that 3G (third generation) services offer a couple of advantages over the 2G (second generation) ones, and are highly developed in countries from Europe or Down Under.
The 3G wireless Internet access provides a significant boost in download and especially upload speeds, over its predecessor, reaching around 800 Kbps for downstream and 400 Kbps for uptream. And that’s something, considering it’s wireless and mobile.

Apple iPhone with 3G support will be available from January 2008 in Europe and Australia
I should also mention that a cellphone network uses a specific type of 3G connectivity, called HDSPA (High-Speed Download Packet Access). And this particular network is very poor represented in the US. Thus the initial left out of 3G support for the Apple iPhone. But, on the other hand, since in Europe and Australia the number of 3G services and subscribers is pretty high, the Americans needed to take into consideration this problem, and so they did, in order to have any impact on these huge markets.
So, in the end, i have to repeat the good news. Apple heard the crowds plea, and is planning to introduce an “European-friendly” version of the Apple iPhone, from the beginning of the next year. Can’t wait for it!!!
