Adtron’s 160 GB flash hard disk makes future look closer

Solid State Drives are not an exotic way of storing information anymore, but are hardly a viable replacement for classic magnetic storage.

Why? Because of the price and storage capacity, the main disadvantages SSD have over hard drives. Adtron made a small step in the storage capacity area by launching a model featuring 160 GB of flash storage.

Adtron new models are I25FB and A25FB (IDE and Serial ATA interface in 2.5″ form factor) and offer read/write transfer rates in the 70 MB/s range and pack Erasure Data Security, a set of Data Security requierments for commercial enterprise and Millitary and Intelligence Standards.

There’s no word on pricing on the press release page, but expect it to cost much more than your 500 GB internal hard drive.
