Acer Iconia Tab A500 – a new Android tablet
At the beginning of this year at the Mobile World Congress Acer presented a few tablets with touchscreens called as follows: Iconia Tab W500, A100 and A500.
We presented you the first two models, so now we will present the 3rd one, Acer Iconia Tab A500. Firstly it is important to state that this tablet will be sold exclusively in the United States.
Secondly, let us start with the technical specs of Acer Iconia Tab A500:
- 10.1” capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels,
- 1 GHz dual core processor,
- 1GB of DDR2 RAM,
- 16/32GB of storage space,
- 5MP camera – 2592 x 1944 pixels,
- Connectivity – Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v2.1, microUSB v2.0, USB 2.0,
- Android OS v3.0 Honeycomb operating system.
Design and build characteristics
Acer Iconia Tab A500 is a 10 inch tablet with a maximum resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. The producer chose the nVidia Tegra 2 chipset that uses a 1 GHz dual core processor and a GeForce graphics accelerator. The internal memory is of 1 GB of DDR 2 and storage space is of 16 or 32 GB. Those who find the storage space insufficient can go for a microSD card.
If the screen is surrounded by a black frame, the rest of the tablet is gray. On the back of the tablet you will find the camera and the two incorporated speakers, while on the side you will see the HDMI, USB 2.0, microUSB 2.0, and audio 3.5 mm jack ports.

Operating system and applications
As expected Acer chose the Android v3.0, also known as Honeycomb, as the operating system. Along with the high tech characteristics you will have a fast and intuitive operating system specially created for tablets. Acer Iconia Tab A500 will probably have applications such as the following preinstalled: Google Search, Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Picasa, Facebook and other social networks. The tablet supports Adobe Flash Player 10.1 and can open office documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint or PDF).

The 5 MP camera on the back of the phone can capture images at a maximum resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels and has autofocus and LED flash functions. The producer also mounted a secondary 2 MP camera. Considering the nVidia Tegra 2 chipset used by the Iconia Tab A500, I suspect that the users will have the possibility to play 3D games and view HD/ Full HD movies.
The tablet has an incorporated audio video player that supports XviD, MP4, MP3, WAV, WMA, etc. Along with the incorporated speakers the Iconia Tab A500 has a 3.5 mm jack, ideal for connecting the audio headset.
Connectivity
Internet connection can be done with wireless 802.11 b/g/n networks. The tablet also has Bluetooth v2.1, USB, microUSB and HDMI ports. This means you can enjoy multimedia content on a any LCD/LED TV.
