One of the legendary rivalries in automotive history is the one between Subaru Impresa STI and Mitsubishi Lancer Evo. Now Subaru has a ace in its sleeves with the 2008 version of the Impresa STI. What strikes us most it’s the fact that Subaru will ditch the sedan form factor for a hatchback version.
I can’t say that I’m pleased with this change, but surely I’m happy with the news headlamps form, a much more down to Earth look. Maybe Subaru is aiming at Golf GTI users.
The engine remains the strong point of the Impresa: a 2.5 litres turbocharged engine that produces 300 bhp, coupled to a six speed manual gearbox. It seems that no DSG or paddle automated manual gearbox will be available for the 2008 model.

Amazingly enough, the new Subaru Impresa STI will feature some gadgets, which never equipped such beasts in past. I’m talking about high mounted sat-nav screen, MP3 player, game console. It seems that the interior was also redesigned to a much modern look. The new Impresa STI will sell for about 27.000 £ and will be available in March next year.
